Disney News : Disneyland cuts ties with McDonald's
Disney News

September 2 marks the end of Disneyland's association with McDonald's. The California theme park is closing the three McDonald's kiosks operating there. Disneyland spokeswoman Lisa Haines indicated they will reopen "with other theming and branding."

It is not known what will be replacing McDonald's or what date the kiosks will reopen. Haines has stated "we are considering a number of different concept options."

The last Disney tie-in with McDonald's was in 2006 for "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

Disney has been focusing on offering healthier options at its theme parks. While fast food outlets have also been making efforts to do the same, a recent report criticizes McDonald's for having too much salt and fat in 90% of their high caloric kid's meals.

The three McDonald's outlets in Walt Disney World are expected to remain in operation at this time.

Disney News : Get ready to pay more cheese to see the mouse with price increase at WDW
Disney News

A basic theme-park ticket at Walt Disney World will cost an added $4 a person starting Sunday.

Disney announced increased ticket prices Friday afternoon that push the cost up 5.6 percent to $75 for the basic one-park, one-day ticket for adults and children age 10 or older. The old price, $71, is still in effect today. The price of a basic ticket for children ages 3-9 will rise Sunday to $63, up 5 percent from $60.

Disney also raised the price of its "Magic Your Way" multiday-ticket packages, by 3 percent to 8 percent. The top deal, a 10-day adult Magic Your Way ticket, now costs $237, or $23.70 a day, up 5.3 percent. The Park Hopper add-on, which allows ticket holders to move among any of Disney's parks, will cost $50 for up to 10 days, a $5 increase. The Water Park Fun & More add-on option remains $50.

Florida residents may buy advance tickets from participating agencies, by phone or over the Internet, starting at $67.50 for one day. That also reflects a 5.6 percent increase from the current base price.

Disney News : Disney Cutting Costs ... Fantasmic On Reduced Schedule
Disney News

In an effort to cut costs due to rising gasoline prices and a predicted drop in the tourist industry because of a potential economic crisis, Disney is setting Fantasmic on a reduced performance schedule. Starting January 4th, 2009, Fantasmic will only be performed twice a week, meaning crowds for this already popular performance will be even bigger. If you're planning on seeing this show, you'd better stand in line early.

Disney has confirmed it is reducing the amount of performances on its entertainment schedule, with the nighttime spectacular now generally being performed on Monday and Thursday evenings. Now, it's also no coincidence that the new American Idol Experience show will be opening right around the time Fantasmic's performances are reduced to two shows a week. Both shows are performed around the same time each evening, meaning if both shows were scheduled for a particular day, you, the guest, would have to pick which show you'd rather see. By cutting down on the number of Fantasmic performances, Disney is hoping more people will decide to participate in the new American Idol show.

Find below a copy of a Disney press release discussing the details about its cost-cutting move.

"We regularly evaluate and refine our operations. At the same time we unveil The American Idol Experience in January 2009, we will make an adjustment to our operation by offering Fantasmic! on select evenings each week. Fantasmic! will be performed two times weekly –generally Mondays and Thursdays - and more often during our busiest times of the year.

On nights when Fantasmic! is not performed, Guests (with appropriate ticket media) will continue to have the opportunity to enjoy nightly fireworks spectaculars such as Wishes at the Magic Kingdom® Park and IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth at Epcot®.

Showtimes will be published for Guests in the Times Guide, which is available at the theme parks, and online at disneyworld.com."

Disney News : Monster's Inc. Roller Coaster Greenlit
Disney News

A teaser video of the long-rumored Monster's Inc. roller coaster, to be located at Disney's Hollywood Studios, leaked yesterday on the official Disney employee website, The Hub. According to those employees who saw the video, the attraction will be a suspended roller coaster with stunning detail, housed in a large show building themed to look like the Monster's Inc. factory, located at the end of Pixar Place (the end nearest the Backlot Tour), and opening sometime in 2011.

Concept art for the post-show experience was published as well. Based on the scale of this project, it is speculated that the Backlot Tour will be permanently shut down sometime during the construction process. Unfortunately for fans, Disney removed the video from The Hub a few hours after it was uploaded to the internet, leading me to believe someone in the company jumped the gun by publishing the video. Based on that assumption, expect Disney to make an official announcement about this project within the near future.

Disney News : Some Beary Good News
Disney News

After a few years of neglect, the Country Bear Jamboree attraction at the Magic Kingdom will be receiving some substantial updates during a planned refurbishment to take place between September 28 and October 31, 2008.

Among the upgrades coming to the attraction, is an entirely new audio sound system that should make fans of the attraction quite happy, seeing as though the audio quality for the show has been pretty bad in recent memory.

We can also expect some other general maintenance to occur throughout the attraction, but don’t expect any major changes during this time. We also should not expect this to bring back the Country Bear Christmas show, at least not this year. Stay tuned to WDW News Today as we hear more on this upcoming refurbishment.

Disney News : Movin on Down To Moderate
Disney News

The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort are now being listed as a Moderate resort option on the official Walt Disney World Resort website. No reason for the option’s downgrade from Deluxe to Moderate has been made available at this time, but due to the overwhelming size of these accommodations, it is highly doubtful that a price change is going to happen anytime in the near future.

The only rumored explanation for the change is that by listing it with the other Moderate resorts, Disney hopes bookings for the location will increase.
